What should you wear to a winery or wine tour?
Australia is rich in world-famous wine destinations - Margaret River, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Yarra Valley, Coonawarra, Hunter Valley, Clare Valley, the Granite Belt and a local favourite to South East Queensland - Tamborine Mountain.
It is the vastly different terrains and climates of these wine regions that gives Australia its diverse variety of wines.
But what should you wear when visiting a winery or cellar door?
Whilst you will want to dress to impress for this special day out, the main thing to remember is to dress comfortably and to wear the appropriate attire for the season.
Below, we break down what best to wear to a winery in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter...

Clothing suggestions based on seasons -
Summer:
The hottest and most humid season, choose cool fabrics such as linen and lightweight cotton. Breezy dresses, short sleeve linen or polo shirts and smart shorts are recommended. A wide brim hat is essential.
Autumn:
During this time, the vineyard's hues are turning warm. Dress in similar autumnal tones - ochre, plum, coffee, turmeric, terracotta, olive, etc. As the season starts to cool, pair a warm jacket/blazer with pants and a long sleeve top.
Winter:
Dust off those winter coats because it's going to get brisk! Think long coats, light jumpers, turtle necks, dark denim trousers and leather boots. Packing a scarf won't hurt either.
Spring:
The time of the year when everything is in bloom, it's best to celebrate the season with floral patterns and bright colours. Pair long dresses/skirts or shorts with a light jacket or cardigan.

Extra tips on what to wear -
Layers, layers, layers
The temperature throughout the day can dramatically change, so dressing in layers will ensure you can stay cool and warm back up when needed.
Watch out for the UV
Some wineries can be situated in higher altitude locations, meaning the sun can get pretty intense. Make sure to bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen - even in Winter.
Comfort is key
Wine tours tend to take you to multiple cellar doors with occasional walking and standing. Dress comfortably with flat, soft-soled shoes and loose fit clothing.
Pockets and handbags
Whilst you don't need to bring much with you on a wine tour, you'll still need your phone and wallet. Wearing trousers or a dress with pockets, or bringing along a small handbag saves a trip back to the tour bus.
If in doubt, go smart casual
All wineries and cellar doors have different vibes. Some can be very formal; others can be more casual and family-orientated. If you are unsure how to dress, smart casual is the safest option.
